A Portrait of Grief is a series of images that captures the way that grief lingers after the passing of a loved one. After the loss of my grandfather, indicators and tokens of him lived on in his space as if he had never left. It was pertinent for me to observe my grandmother's grieving process from a cultural lens, and the ways that the rituals may vary from person to person. My grandmother changed her surroundings very little after his passing, in an effort to preserve the life they shared in their home. My grandfather appeared in her space through the tomatoes from his garden and his handwriting on the wall. He sat with her in the kitchen in his designated chair and with us at dinner on the table in a frame.
Some things really do live on forever even when they die.
